A Short Word: Impeachment and the State of the Union

I’m not an impartial juror. This is a political process. There is not anything judicial about it. Impeachment is a political decision.
– Senate Leader Mitch McConnell

The battle for impeachment came to its predictable end a day after the complete circus that was State of the Union address. Surprising absolutely no one, with only half of one exception, Senate Republicans did not vote with Democrats to remove the president from office for crimes and ethical violations that he very clearly committed.

The rare die-hard Trump supporter that somehow manages to read this article is going to, of course, scream at their computer or phone, because you know that they do, “fake news!”. Trump, after all, continues to insist that the call was perfect, and his supporters continue to believe everything that he says. No change there, right?

Nevermind that Republicans literally are arguing that Trump has “learned his lesson“, like he’s some kind of angry teenager that’s spent a week at juvenile detention. What is this language? An adult president broke the law, violated his oath of office, and lied to the American people, but, don’t worry, he’s learned his lesson?

Is this the same “law and order” party that happily stands by while crying and terrified children are torn from the arms of their also crying and terrified parents and then put into detention centers where, as of the writing of this article, there are still hundreds of kids who our government has no idea where their parents are?

Meanwhile, Trump, the same president who suggested it was okay for police to injure criminals in their custody, gets a slap on a wrist from the party of “zero tolerance“, who acquitted the president for criminal and corrupt behavior that many of them fully admit happened, because the Democrats might have been partisan.

To add insult to injury, the State of the Union was a comedy of political theater that is rarely seen outside of state run television in third world dictatorships. In true day time television style, Donald Trump spent equal time lying about things that have not happened and bragging about things that have no value to Americans.

First, he lied about the state of the economy, which I’ll get into in another article. Suffice to say, no, things are not going well in the economy. Second, the guy that left the NATO Summit in December, because he was being laughed at by foreign leaders behind his back, claims that America is respected in the world again. By whom?

There is no country in the world where Trump, specifically, is not ferociously mocked by foreign media and the general public. Meanwhile, the European Union leaders are talking about “going it alone” in a global political world without the United States. Donald Trump and his sycophants are the only ones who take Trump seriously.

But don’t worry, America, because we’re inexplicably going back to the Moon, and then on to Mars, for absolutely no reason, whatsoever. Where was someone brave enough to shout “You lie!” into the face of a liar telling lies? Where was someone honest enough to shout “You’re a fool!” into the face of this charlatan? Nowhere.
